Wireless does not always mean cable-free
A Wi-Fi camera sends video wirelessly but often still needs a power cable. Battery-powered products need charging or battery maintenance and may record differently from a continuously powered system.
Where wired CCTV works well
A wired connection is often a good choice for a permanent installation. PoE can carry power and data over one compatible network cable. Cable routes need planning, but the camera does not depend on Wi-Fi coverage at its position.
Where wireless can help
Wireless may suit a location where cable routing is impractical and power and a reliable signal are available. Walls, distance and interference can affect performance. Detached buildings may need a purpose-designed network link.
Compare the whole system
Ask how recording works, whether internet access is required, what happens during an outage and whether subscriptions apply. Choose around the property and the task, rather than the connection label alone.
