Local recording can work offline
A suitable camera and local recorder can record without an internet connection. Wired PoE cameras also do not need Wi-Fi for their connection to compatible recording equipment.
What you lose without internet
Viewing from outside the property, cloud recording, certain alerts and remote updates may be unavailable. Some products need online activation or account setup even if later use can be local.
What happens during an outage
A correctly designed local system can continue recording while internet service is down, provided cameras, recorder and network equipment still have power. An internet outage and a power outage are different issues.
Check the chosen equipment
Ask for the offline operation to be demonstrated before relying on it. Confirm how footage is viewed locally and how time settings, storage and system health will be checked.
