Avoid unnecessary coverage
Position cameras around your own security needs. A narrower angle or a different mounting point may achieve the purpose with less coverage of other people’s property.
Beyond your boundary
Capturing people beyond your property boundary brings data protection duties. Such recording is not automatically banned, but it needs a clear purpose and proportionate coverage. Shared access can require particularly careful thought.
Talk about the view
Explaining what a camera does and does not see can help address concerns. Privacy masking can reduce coverage but is not a complete substitute for considering necessity, transparency and retention.
If somebody raises a concern
Take it seriously and review the camera’s actual view and settings. The ICO provides guidance for both camera users and people affected by surveillance. Seek advice for a dispute that cannot be resolved directly.
Make it specific to your property
Discuss considerate positioning with Borders CCTV. We serve towns and rural properties across the Scottish Borders. A conversation about your site is the next step towards a useful specification.
